The Power of Storms
Harrison "Harry" Turner grew up a pretty normal kid who liked to be outdoors a lot. He
especially loved sitting out on the back porch of his house while it was
storming.....he could just sit for hours and watch and listen.
Turns out this childhood fascination actually carried into adulthood and
Harry studied to be a meteorologist (sp?). After getting the schooling out
of the way (at the University of Cincinnati), Harry got a job with a a
television station as their weatherman. He was pretty good at it, but it
didn't take long before it all just started to bore him. So that's when he
quit his cushy television job and took up stormchasing in Ohio itself
(turns out it gets a fair amount of tornadoes, too).
He went to work for a small little group working on research and refining
tracking and early warning systems. And he also gained an instant,
near-hatred for his boss, Jameson Sellers. Jameson was the definition of
prick and only 3 years older than Harry (now at 32 to Harry's 29) and
seemed to make it his personal mission in life to make his 'grunts' work
experience as miserable as possible.
Aside from this, though, Harry enjoyed his work. The thrill of the chase,
the awe of being so near the big twisters, and the feeling he was doing
something good along the way. He made friends with everyone he worked with
(except Jameson, of course) and everything was going great.
One day, it got even better. That was the day that Harry met Gwen
Staunton. She worked as a librarian in a big public library in Cincy and
also hosted little story and learning hours for the kids. Possibly it was
her rather sedate (if probably rewarding) life that helped with her
attraction to Harry and his dangerous lifestyle. Or maybe Harry just
turned out to be a pretty likeable guy.
Whatever the reason, they started
dating and a year later they had moved into an apartment together. 2 years
later, they were still living together, but a kind of tension had wormed
it's way into their lives. Harry felt increasingly like he should ask Gwen
to marry him (like that's what she probably wanted, anyway), but somehow
the idea of a formal marriage (not to mention thoughts of children/family
the idea brought to his mind) kind of scared Harry. It seemed like it
would threaten his 'carefree' and 'adrenaline-packed' life.....if he had
kids and a real *wife*, after all, could he really justify continuing to
chase tornadoes around?
And so, this is the general state of mind and affairs that Harrison "Harry"
Turner finds himself in as he winds his way toward his destiny.
Harry's a pretty tall guy at about 6' 4" with a strong build (he played a
lot of sports in high school and college and still has the bod). He has
black hair in a longish crew-cut style. Light blue eyes (normally) and a
relatively unremarkable face. Generally likes to wear jeans and button-up
shirts (but not, you know, flannel types :)).
(Aside from Bonds, this is all the info I have on Harry.)
